Donkeys disappearing in Andhra, reports claim they Donkeys disappearing in Andhra, reports claim they're being killed for meat

It seems like donkeys are on the verge of extinction in Andhra Pradesh as they are being indiscriminately killed in the state for their meat. Multiple reports of donkeys being illegally slaughtered have been reported from Andhra Pradesh's West Godavari, Krishna, Prakasam and Guntur districts. According to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) 2011, donkey is not registered as a 'food animal' and so its slaughter for consumption is illegal. However, despite laws, donkey meat is being openly sold and that too at hefty prices. In order to cater to the rising demand, traders have been moving the animals in trucks via illegal means and selling them for Rs Rs 10-15,000 each

There's evidence that Russia was behind SolarWinds There's evidence that Russia was behind SolarWinds hack: Microsoft

Follow us @sitblogs for such post

The US Senate questioned the chief executives of SolarWinds and other tech firms in a hearing Tuesday after unknown attackers, who are suspected of having links to Russia, infiltrated the company's software last year, which compromised thousands of organizations, including major federal agencies.

SolarWinds was joined in the hearing by FireEye, the cybersecurity firm that discovered the malware in December, as well as Microsoft, whose president, Brad Smith, was present at the proceedings. CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz also testified. His cybersecurity firm was apparently able to stave off the hackers.

During the hearing, Smith gave the strongest indication that the cyberattack originated in Russia, while Kurtz and FireEye CEO Kevin Mandia did not confirm or deny the attackers' origins. But Mandia said the attack was consistent with Russian behavior.

Fares for short distance trains hiked to discourag Fares for short distance trains hiked to discourage unnecessary travel: Railways

Follow us @sitblogs for such post

The ministry of railways on Wednesday clarified that its move to slightly increase fares for short distance passenger trains has been taken to discourage people from travelling amid the coronavirus pandemic. Through the move, the ministry is aiming to prevent crowding in trains and therefore curb the spread of Covid-19. The ministry added that the step was only taken to minimise travelling for the passengers and limit it to only necessary travel.

“Covid is still around and in fact worsening in some states. Visitors from many states are being subjected to screening in other areas and discouraged to travel,” ministry of railways said in their press release.

The railways also said that they aim to constantly increase the number of passenger trains in a phased manner. Regular trains had been stopped on March 22 last year after the nationwide lockdown was imposed to counter the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Indian Railways is constantly increasing the number of passenger carrying trains in a graded manner. Full restoration of regular services of passenger trains, to pre-Covid times, is to be considered keeping in view a range of factors and operational circumstances,” it said.

Bitcoin suffers biggest daily drop in a month, fal Bitcoin suffers biggest daily drop in a month, falls to as low as $45,000

Follow us @sitblogs for such post

Bitcoin plummeted as much as 17% on Tuesday as investors grew nervous at sky-high valuations, triggering the liquidation of leveraged bets and sparking a sell-off across cryptocurrency markets.

The world's biggest cryptocurrency was facing its biggest daily drop in a month, falling to as low as $45,000. In choppy trading, it was last down 15.6%.

The drop took its losses to over a fifth from a record high of $58,354 hit on Sunday and underscored the volatility of the emerging asset - though it is still up around 60% this year.

"The kinds of rallies we've been seeing aren't sustainable and just invite pullbacks like this," said Craig Erlam, senior market analyst at OANDA. "It was an extremely overbought market."

Ether, the world's second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation that often moves in tandem with bitcoin, also dropped more than 20% to $1,410, down over 30% from last week's record peak.
